Is the WoW Forever stress test free?

Joining the test costs nothing extra: Blizzard says no subscription, Game Time, invitation or beta access is required. You do need a Battle.net account with World of Warcraft on it, and after the test you will still need a subscription or Game Time to play WoW Forever itself.

Do I need beta access?

No. The stress test is separate from the beta and open to any player with a WoW account. The beta itself goes offline shortly before the stress test and comes back shortly after it ends.

What time does it start in my region?

On October 21, 2026: Europe realms open at 19:00 CEST (17:00 UTC), and Americas plus Oceania realms open at 2:00 p.m. PDT (21:00 UTC). Korea opens October 22 at 6:00 a.m. KST and Taiwan at 5:00 a.m. CST, which is also 21:00 UTC on October 21. Europe opens 4 hours before the Americas.

How long will it last?

Blizzard only says the realms stay open for a few hours, and the window may end earlier or run later as needed. There is no official end time, so plan to log in close to the start.

Will my character carry over?

No. When the test ends, Blizzard runs a complete wipe: every character, name and guild made on the stress test realms is completely removed. Nothing carries into the beta or the launch game.

Why do some sites still say October 19?

The original Blizzard news post from October 15, 2026 said October 19, and when we checked on October 17 that page had not been updated. On October 16, community manager Kaivax confirmed on the official forums that the test now happens on October 21, not two days earlier, and Wowhead reported the change. This guide follows the newer date.

World of Warcraft: Forever itself is being made for Windows and macOS. Blizzard did not separately state whether the stress test client covers macOS, so watch the Battle.net app on your machine to see what is offered there.

How do I join the WoW Forever stress test?

These are the official steps from the Blizzard news post, in the original order:

Update your graphics driver.
Open the Battle.net desktop app and let it update if it asks.
Select World of Warcraft in your games list.
Above the Play button, open the Game Version menu, pick World of Warcraft: Forever Stress Test under In Development, and click Install.
When the install finishes and the test begins, click Play and pick an available test realm.
Create a new test character and enter the game.

What to do during the test

Blizzard asks players to actually play, because that is what loads the servers: create characters, run a few quests, trade items, chat, and group up with other players.

Remember that everything you do is temporary — the realms are wiped when the window closes, so do not plan anything you want to keep. See how long the test lasts.
